Washing instructions please!

Hello there,

Thanks so much for reaching out, we’re happy to help with care instructions for your weighted blanket.

Your first line of defense is the removable cover, that’s why every blanket comes with a washable minky cover. It’s designed to make cleaning easy so you can avoid washing the inner weighted blanket itself whenever possible.

Washing the blanket itself, can be a bit tricky. Most home washing machines just aren’t built to handle that kind of weight when it’s soaked with water. It can be tough on both the blanket and the machine. If you notice a stain, we recommend spot cleaning with cold water and a gentle, bleach-free detergent instead of washing the whole thing.

But if you do need to give the entire blanket a wash, here are a few important tips:

 What not to do:

• Please don’t send it to a dry cleaner, the chemicals can damage the materials.

• Avoid washing it with other laundry items.

• Skip the bleach, vinegar, harsh detergents, or fabric softeners.

• And no hot water, stick to cold only.

   

 How to hand-wash your blanket:

1. Fill your bathtub halfway with cold water.

2. Add ½ to 1 cup of a mild, bleach-free detergent, and froth the water a bit until bubbles form.

3. Submerge the blanket and gently move it around with your hands so the soap gets everywhere.

4. Drain the tub and refill with clean water to rinse. Repeat this step until all the soap is gone.

5. Carefully squeeze out as much water as you can, you might need a second pair of hands for this part. 

 How to Machin-wash your blanket:

1. Use cold water.

2. Choose gentle/delicate cycle or the lowest spin speed.

3. Use a small amount of mild detergent.

4. Avoid bleach and fabric softener.

5. Wash the removable cover separately.

6. Make sure your washer can handle the blanket’s weight when wet. Very heavy weighted blankets may need a commercial-size washer

 Drying Instructions:

• Avoid hanging the blanket on a clothesline, it’s too heavy and could stretch or damage the fabric.

• Instead, lay it flat on a clean surface like towels, a drying rack, or over a sturdy banister.

• Flip and shake it out every couple of hours to help it dry evenly.

• Sunlight can help speed things up, but try not to leave it in strong direct sun for too long to avoid fading.
